Acolytes

Acolytes assist the clergy in worship services in the church. Young people, both male and female in grades 6-12, are divided into teams and serve on a rotating basis at the Eucharist services each Sunday.  Acolytes also assist at other special services. Any young person interested in the acolyte ministry should contact the Church office for the name and phone number of the Acolyte Master.

Altar Guild

The altar guild is a group of volunteers that give their time and service to prepare and maintain the sanctuary for worship. This guild works behind the scenes to ensure that the liturgy can proceed with dignity and beauty. The chair of the altar guild organizes the members into teams that serve a month at a time, preparing the church for each regularly scheduled service. Additional teams prepare the church for special occasions such as weddings and funerals. Anyone interested in serving on the altar guild should call the Church office for a contact name and phone number.

ChristCare Groups

ChristCare Groups are "Circles of care with Christ at the center." Each group has three to twelve members and is lead by a trained ChristCare Small Group Leader. ChristCare Group members give and receive Christ's care to one another. When in a ChristCare Group, one never goes through a tough time alone, be it a major crisis or just the bumps and bruises of daily life. Fellow group members are always there to help.

Christ is central to ChristCare Groups. ChristCare members meet Jesus himself in their fellow group members, in the Scriptures, in their times of prayer and worship, and through their mission service. With Jesus at the enter of all that the group is and does, group members grow as Jesus' disciples, increasing in faith, joy and love.

Anyone interested in a ChristCare Group should call the Church office for a contact name and phone number.

Flower Guild

Each Sunday during the year, except during Lent and on feast days, parishioners may donate funds for altar flowers and other decorations for the church as a memorial or thank offering. The Flower Guild purchases and prepares decorations for feast days and special occasions. On most Sundays, local florists provide the arrangements. Donors are encouraged to sign the book in the narthex to indicate which day(s) they wish to contribute. The church will order the flowers and the donor will be billed directly by the florist. When the Flower Guild does the arrangements, the church office will notify the donors to make their check payable to St. Mark's, designated for flowers.

The Flower Guild has a cutting garden on the church grounds to provide a greater variety of flowers and to reduce the overall costs for church decorations.

Anyone interested in joining the Flower Guild, either to work on decorations or to help with the cutting garden, should call the church office for a contact name and phone number.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

Lay Eucharistic Ministers assist the clergy in administering the bread and wine at celebrations of the Holy Eucharist. They also go out to deliver consecrated bread and wine to the sick and shut-ins each Sunday immediately following the service. For anyone interested in this ministry, call the Church office for a contact name and phone number.

Lectors & Lay Readers

At St. Mark's, as in most Episcopal Churches today, a lay person comes forward during the liturgy to read a "lesson", a designated Bible reading for the day.  Lectors, along with Lay Readers, are non-ordained persons who participate in a service by reading a part of the service.  Lay Readers also lead the service of Morning Prayer three days a week.  Anyone interested in becoming a Lector or Lay Reader should call the Church office for a contact name and phone number.

Welcoming

Whether you have been at St. Mark's one week, one month, or one year, we want to let you know how pleased we are to have you in our church community.

Along with our Greeters, other parishioners prepare small gifts and host informal luncheons for our newcomers.  If you consider yourself a newcomer, we'd love to see you again or meet you for the first time.  Help us get to know you by submitting your name and contact information to our Church office.

Office Volunteers

Volunteers work limited and flexible hours in the Church office, providing assistance to the Church staff in their day-to-day activities. These volunteers act as the office receptionist, answer the phone, and assist with mailing parish publications. Anyone interested in volunteering should call the Church office for information on when people may be needed.

Parish Care Guild

If you or a family member gets sick, has a new baby, goes to the hospital, has a death in the family or any other crisis, the Parish Care Guild wants to provide support. In those difficult times, this guild provides meals, makes phone calls, sends cards, offers prayers and gives other assistance to our parish families.

For the Parish Care Guild to help, we must first know about your situation, so please call the church office at 225-4203, or send an email  if you or another parishioner might benefit from this ministry.

Join the Parish Care Guild

If you would like to be a participant in this special ministry, your help will be very welcome. Guild members serve a month at a time as part of a team that cooks, delivers food, makes phone calls, sends cards and prays for our parishioners. As our guild grows, we will provide transportation and visitation of shut-ins and hospitalized parishioners. As a guild member, you will be blessed with the gratitude of our parish families. Call the church office for the name of a contact person.

Ushers

Ushers prepare the church for services, greeting members and visitors at the door, handing out service leaflets, and helping visitors to become familiar with our physical facilities. During communion, ushers maintain an orderly flow to the altar rail. After the service, the ushers straighten up the church and lock the doors. Anyone interested in ushering should call the Church office for a contact name and phone number
