Columbarium

In
our forefathers' day, the dead were buried in the church yard.
Their remains were interred in this consecrated ground, with stone
markers symbolically honoring the departed's life and faith, while
serving as a reminder to the living of their own mortality.
In
our contemporary urban environment, this practice is almost impossible.
More often, the dead are buried far from where they spent their
daily lives, insulating the living from the fact of death.
Now,
the concept of burial at the church is in revival. Churches are
providing columbaria for the cremated remains of departed members.
With this, the church once again is the central site for the major
milestones of life - baptism, confirmation, marriage and burial.
The
St. Mark's Garden Columbarium provides such a resting place for
the cremated remains of the dead. Interment in the Columbarium
is available to any communicant of any Episcopal church in the
Diocese of Arkansas or to any member of his or her immediate family.
At the discretion of St. Mark's, persons who are not members of
the church may be accepted. Application to purchase a plot in
the columbarium and arrangements for interment are made through
St. Mark's. Anyone interested should call Church office
for a contact name and phone number.
