St. Mark's members are active in various organizations which serve those in need in Central Arkansas and beyond.  Some of those organizations are listed below.  The St. Mark's Outreach Committee coordinates our work with these groups.  To find out more, click the name of the group.

Arkansas Foodbank

The Arkansas Foodbank network was established in 1984 with the mission of eliminating hunger in Arkansas. Arkansas Rice Depot

Gives free food to 300 church food pantries and hunger agencies across the state. Typically, gives five million pounds of food a year. Operates Food for Kids, a program that provides nutritious ready-to-eat food and backpacks to 200 public schools so food can be sent home with children facing hunger. Habitat for Humanity

An ecumenical Christian housing ministry, with the goal of eliminating poverty housing by building decent shelter for involved persons. St. Mark's has supported Habitat for Humanity by sponsoring the construction of houses, as well as providing volunteers who construct houses. Habitat has provided decent, affordable housing for people in Pulaski County since 1989. It is part of the world-wide Habitat For Humanity organization. LifeQuest of Arkansas

Founded in 1981, LifeQuest is a volunteer-based interfaith non-profit that was established by and for active adults.   It provides opportunities for lifelong learning and community service, emphasizing quality of life and an independent lifestyle.  LifeQuest is housed at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, phone 225-6073.  Website: www.lifequestofarkansas.org

 

Literacy Action of Central Arkansas

Our House

Our House provides transitional shelter to individuals and families as they work and get back on their feet. Active in Little Rock for 15 years, Our House is at 408 Main Street, Little Rock, AR 72201, Phone 501-375-2416.

 

Potluck

Potluck, Inc. is Arkansas’ oldest, largest and only fully operational non-profit food rescue organization.  Its mission is to alleviate hunger by bridging the gap between excess food and the hungry.  Potluck solicits, rescues and distributes hundreds of thousands of pounds of nutritious, unserved, prepared, perishable food and unmarketable grocery products from manufacturers, restaurants, grocery stores and other sources.  They began in 1989, have 89 participating organizations, and rescued 2 million pounds of food last year to serve 75,000 people.  Potluck is at 1400 Gregory, North Little Rock.  Phone 501-371-0303; Fax 501-374.2482; email potluck@aristotle.net.  Carol Herzog is Director.

Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN)

The Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN) in Arkansas is a statewide program of services for persons affected by or infected with HIV/AIDS.  The non-profit organization provides community outreach activities and offers AIDS awareness and HIV prevention education to a variety of groups.  RAIN also trains volunteers to give practical, emotional and spiritual support to persons living with AIDS and their families.  RAIN recruits, trains and supports Careteams throughout the state of Arkansas.  Each Careteam consists of six to 20 trained volunteers who are assigned an individual or family living with AIDS. These volunteers provide transportation, occasional meals, light housework and social outings, as well as offer encouragement, friendship and love.  Contact RAIN at P. O. St. Francis House

This nonprofit center is a diocesan-wide project and is dedicated to helping people with various personal and financial problems. It is also supported through the United Way, other community churches, interested individuals, clubs and businesses. Help may also come through donations of food and clothing, as well as a volunteering of time at the center. St. Francis House has two locations in Little Rock, providing around 35,000 clients a year with a health clinic, an Early Head Start Program, and a Veterans' Re-Entry Program.  St. Francis House, 2701 S. Stew Pot

Women and Children First
